The BIA PTO’s (Parent Teacher Organization) mission is to create and sustain close relationships between our parents, teachers, students and greater community.

  • Promotes communication and cultivates a sense of community between parents, students and faculty through monthly meetings and school-based family engagement activities
  • Enhances our educational environment – supporting teachers and students by raising funds for educational materials, field trips, innovative instructional support, technology grants, playground and other physical improvements to the school
  • Recruits and coordinates volunteers for programs and projects that support and enrich our curriculum and educational goals
  • Works in partnership to serve and advocate for all of our students and families, and to help create a safe and healthy learning environment where students can excel and feel confident in themselves
  • Nurtures a strong, respectful school community that is connected with wider community groups, businesses, cultural institutions to help our students understand their individual impact on our neighborhood, city, state, country and the world

23/24 Goals


  • Build a strong base of communication between the PTO and the school community through newsletters and other methods of reaching out 
  • Help maintain a public calendar of events 
  • Provide logistical support for all school wide events, including: Language nights, concerts, Black History night, IB units and theme, book fairs, picture days, etc
  • Provide logistical support for in class fundraisers (dress down days)
  • Increase parent volunteerism 
  • Development of student clubs/after school programs around school needs
    • A/V club (to help with assemblies/etc)
    • Lunch Buddy/student mentors (kindergartener and sixth grader)
    • Storytime with lower grades (identify students from the upper school in each language)
    • Yearbook 
  • Formalize and grow support for existing clubs (Robotics, choir, etc) 
  • Create new fundraisers (valentines, halloween… etc) 
  • Build and maintain teacher recognition stuff – hugs and high fives, nominate teacher of the month, supply drives, etc.
  • Help build a library of age appropriate books in the target languages
